Make Your Mark Project

The fish and weaving are previous sketches I had added last spring to the group journal in LaGrange Art League's Make Your Mark Project, spearheaded by artist Laura Lein-Svencner. I added the sketch of Matisse's sculpture yesterday when putting in my monthly volunteer time staffing the gallery.

Art is contemplation. It is the pleasure of the mind which searches into nature and which there divines the spirit of which nature herself is animated.

Doris,

I forgot all about that quote from Rodin. About a hundred years ago I took an art history class in university. As part of the class we had to do reports on two famous artists. I choose Gauguin and Rodin, and had used a quote from each on the cover pages. For Rodin I used this same quote on art and contemplation. When I saw your drawing of the Rodin piece and read the text on it, something triggered. I Googled it and added it in the post up there ^^^.

Now, just sketch some Gauguin work and I can use that quote too. ;)

Love these drawings Doris! I really like the balance of white space and areas of line that you make. x

Really neat drawings. Amazing you did that Matisse sculpture sketch in just a few hours. The diversity of line is very intriguing and the values are great.I really see your love of sketching the figure coming out here. Is this a self portrait of you relaxing? Sounds like you're taking some great artist day time outs. Good!

oh and fun to see how your drawing has evolved from last year. Seems more free spirited now.
