"Artists can color the sky red because they know it's blue. Those of us who aren't artists must color things the way they really are or people might think we're stupid." ~Jules Feiffer
Small group tonight. Getting back into fall schedules? A couple young students returned. Ellen brought music. It was good to hear Norah Jones after a long spell and ended evening with some Jazz. Been some time since I've drawn Gerry and todays quotes left me considering that yes because I am an artist the skies can be red rather than blue as we well know it to be, so I challenged myself with black paper and did well while I worked on instinct but felt extremely challenged when I tried to control the drawing. I suppose todays lesson could very well be to let go and go with the flow. Accurate perception is much less important than creating new vision.

I'm liking this explorer in you.

Remember this gals blog?

You're probably seeing some students from North Central College. My daughter went back there last Sunday. Yes autumn has returned. It seems like the colleges/universities here only offer life drawing in fall semister so I've been working my tail off. (Which is good because my tail could use some working off)
Getting back to your post, I really like the darker backgrounds. The model seems to jump off the sheet at the viewer. It's almost like a reductive drawing without using the reductive technique.

Shameless plug time:
I will be working at Tallgrass on Sunday the 20th between 3 and 5 pm. My wife will also be joining me for a few poses. She's never done the figure model thing but I happen to think she has a good mentor ;)
Doris,
I like that you are going with the flow. Each image is intriguing and unique. I love the relaxed feel of your pieces and also the white lines. Being someone who is intrigued by energy and healing, I feel the model's energetic essence (aura?)is being picked up by you and creatively rendered. Okay, sorry if I am a bit out there with this.Been on a bit of a spiritual journey lately.
Bob,
I don't mind the plug. It's pretty close to where I live who knows I may drop in.
Bev
Bob, I'm hoping my plans will send me that direction on the 20th. It's amazing how quickly the schedule overfills!
Bev, I'm pleased with your perceptions of feeling an aura, I always try to capture the spirit of the subjects I render. Even inanimate objects like Uta's that convey such emotion.
I'll head over to check out that dreamswork blog!
I felt that too - that "aura". Love the sketchy colors and the white. Especially the wispy hair in the last one!
Ooh I really like the sketches on black paper and agree with Bev about capturing the aura. And the use of colors....you are very talented!
