Perspective Study

Yes, of course again I have a great respect for pastel artists. I began this painting with my summer students at La Grange Art League and decided I must work at it and grow. I worked it and reworked it and changed it (even one more time since I photographed it at the Countryside Vet Clinic where I work several hours a week on computer.) I believe I may have completed a much better piece had I been working from a photo or even plein air, but this is from imagination and it had to continually change to balance and become a pleasing view. I'm hesitant to say it is complete, but feel the piece itself has no more lessons for me. More humility as I have not studied nor mastered the tools. It's a mix of high fi grays, earth tone chalks and a few remaining pieces from my son's childhood art supplies.
Earlier this week I had the opportunity to judge the student art for Indian Prairie District 204 Reflections Program. The theme this year was "Beauty is." I enjoyed a couple hours out of my workday working alongside Zaki, Belgium artist working as director of Naperville Art League. K-12 entries broken into four categories, we were able to choose five in each to progress into the next level of competition. There are some fabulous little artists out there. Hoping down the road they don't get censored and quit or stray from their art. Then I may remember their early work once they've entered the professional market.

Well there lady, I truly enjoy it when I can click on a image and it's larger and I can see the pastel strokes and how it is blended. Being I can't see it right now in person it's wonderful to beable to just click the image and get that closer look at things and not be still the same size as what is on the blog. And so happy that our making such great progress with you ventures in the pastel world, nowing you true love of drawing it great when an artist ventures out and explores then shares it with us here. And how wonderful to judge a children's show. Juggling it all but still slipping in the art!!!

I'm with Laura. I loved clicking and zooming in and seeing all those wonderful marks you made. I have not been brave enough to attempt a landscape. Well done Doris!!!

A style reminiscent of Van Gogh (I suppose the lines of the trees evoke that thought in me - but subtly. The water so creamy dreamy! I like that you used your child's art supplies in this piece. Keeping those memories alive here in your own personal art, what a great connection you will instill.
I too love the landscape style. It is even more impressive to me that it comes from your imagination/intuitive. I think that is a truer, soulful place to dip from. You have such a unique style that makes me clamor for more!

It's a beautiful painting, Doris. You have blended your pastels with expertise. It must come naturally to you. Just lovely.
